Good luck on your first bound quilt Connie!!! If you need any help, just holler on Main  :D:D:D

I love this technique. I first used elmers on the binding of a quilt and couldn't believe how well it worked. I think I'm gonna use it on an art quilt next and see what happens. Hopefully it won't be hard to sew thru... eh, the bernina will sew thru anything. tee hee

Thanks believe me I will be sure to ask. The 2 quilts I am working on is really got to be just right my grand sons or getting married an I don't have much money so I though maybe if I made something my self it would mean something, I sure don't have money to spend that would get anything they would remember yrs. down the road! If you know what I am saying :( . I read the post the other day where a woman gave her dad a quilt an he didn't think it was all that. I sure hope this works out better then that, I'll just die right there in my there. I just feel like I am out of place. I am just a poor old country woman an these or all very city people if you know what I mean.

I am sure your grandson and his bride will be pleased with what you make them. Gifts from the heart and hands are the best. I think you are woman with a kind and loving heart and that is what matters...not if you are a "city" or "country" person. Read the post on here "I think under chit chat" from the man who is so thrilled to have the scraps from his grandmother's quilting and his feelings about her. :)

Connie,,,,I found the post I was referring to above. It is under...A stroll down memory lane on the main page. I think it would be a great comfort to you to know your grandson and his bride will feel the same way about your gift.

Margie :)

Chigger Holler Quilter 04-02-2010 09:11 AM

Thanks for the inspiration and pic. directions! I just wrote school glue on my shopping list!

You are very welcome :D:D:D

I'm doing a quilt as you go. The top and back are sliding a little after I sandwich them. Maybe a few drops of the glue will keep them in place while I quilt them.

I tried the basting spray, but the one that I have has a strong odor. I won't continue to use it.

ann clare 06-19-2010 02:38 PM

Thanks for sharing.

AnnaK 06-20-2010 03:43 PM

I just recently heard about glue basting and I am liking the results...a LOT. thanks for posting this Amma!

deeceem 06-21-2010 06:41 PM

I've used it to hold many things, buttons, velcro, matching seams, any place that a third hand is needed.

tess10 08-02-2010 08:03 AM

I just took a Hawaiian quilting class and the instructor used this method to hold down the applique prior to needle turn. I spent 6 hours basting the design down while others used the glue method and were done very quickly.

mamaw 08-02-2010 12:25 PM

A friend bought me Sharon Schamber's tips to put on the Elmer's Glue bottle; and it is great for doing the bindings!! Amazing how just a little press of the iron sets it.
I use Roxanne's Glue Baste It for applique, because of the very tiny tip.

Pastor_Ruth 10-16-2010 04:06 PM

Ok I am impressed... little intimidated by putting glue on a project but... hey maybe I will start with a wall hanging and graduate?! Thank you for sharing your tutorial!

mawcarol 10-18-2010 03:25 PM

I tried it.Works great. Thanks so much for the tutorial.

RkayD 10-20-2010 06:59 PM

I like this, especially for the bigger quilts that i do, no pins, I am always sticking myself

Ninnie, I just had to laugh at your little statement "WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, CUT UP FABRIC"
I surely have to agree. Thanks for that laugh.

ReeneeD 11-01-2010 07:43 AM

Thanks so much - it even looks like FUN! Can't wait to try it.

Wow! I love this. What a way to avoid all those pin pricks I end up with. Gotta try it. Thanks for your tute

Hi Amma,

Must be something wrong with this handler. I used Elmer's Glue but it didn't stick as much as I thought it would. Any tips :?:

I know, I know... you explained it well enough, that is why I say it just must be me!

azwendyg 11-01-2010 03:14 PM

Thanks so much for putting up this tut. I used it to glue-baste the binding recently and it worked like a charm!

I am not sure why this happened. Could you give me some more information on what you were using it for please? I bet we can figure it out :D:D:D

Did you press it with a hot iron to set it? I't doesn't really stick until you do that step...

Let's see, so much has been going on since I tried it. Yes, I did press it with a hot iron. I will give it a try again now that I have my project completed and out the door. I do like the idea so I hope I can get it to work.

I did use a brand new bottle of Elmer's Glue. I will get back to you as soon as I try it again. Thank you. :-D

I also do this, a little swipe with the glue stick on the ends and it holds while I needle turn. I am working on an 18 x 18 Mokihana panel now.

Deara 11-05-2010 09:15 AM

I will try this on my next binding.
Thanks for the tute.

Ida 11-05-2010 09:32 AM

Thanks for the tute! I learn so much on QB. My seams will be a lot better now. I am a newbie at quilting.

Quilt Mom 11-05-2010 12:13 PM

What is the difference if you use elmer's glue versus elmer's school glue? Does one wash out and not the other?

amma 11-05-2010 01:28 PM

I believe they are one and the same... as long as it doesn't say wood glue, or anything else on the bottle. It should also say it washes out :D:D:D

You are all very welcome :D:D:D

gale 11-05-2010 10:48 PM

To me elmer's school glue is more translucent than regular old fashioned elmer's.

Sew Hooked 11-08-2010 09:23 AM

This is a great idea, and I've seen it before. My only problem is I have searched high and low for a bottle with that very fine tip, and I can't find one ANYWHERE. This is a wash (pardon the pun) if you don't have that fine tip.

I will continue the search.

Quilt Mom 11-09-2010 06:44 AM

I thought you had to buy the tip separately.

eightylady 11-09-2010 07:03 AM

Do you always have to wash the glue dots out?

IBQUILTIN 11-09-2010 08:08 AM

I have been glue basting applique for quite a while, but never even dreamed of using it to match seams or to set the binding. Thanx for the tute, Great Great tips.

rufus2 12-20-2010 06:12 AM

Very nice tutorial. Thanks for showing this in such great detail.
I just wish that they would come out with the small bottles. I have the attachment but can't use them. You were lucky to find a bottle in the store.
