Thank you so much for the wonderful tutorial. Can't wait to get started but have one sweatshirt to finish and another one to do so it probably won't happen until next year but I'm definitely going to do one of these.

Hi. I am newly registered here/lurker. THANK YOU! This is the best tutorial I have seen for this jacket. Thank you for taking the time to do this. My Mom and daughter will have many patchwork jackets because of you. lol

I cut the neck ribbing off, as well as cutting up the center front after I've finished all the "patchwork", and put binding on neck, front, and bottom. I usually put a cuff/border on the sleeve so I can turn up the sleeves a little bit. A lady came to our quilt guild and did a workshop on these shirts. On some of them, she left the neck ribbing on, and put the bottom ribbing back on and didn't cut them up the front -- and her husband wears some of them. The ones she showed us were just gorgeous. I'll see if I can find some pictures and post them later.

That totally makes sense to hold off on cutting the center. I'll try it that way next time. Can't wait to see your pics.

I've also seen this same method used but using Bargello strips instead. Makes a very striking jacket but I haven't had time to try it yet.
What a wonderful tute you gave us. Thanks so much.

Just had to jump in here and say that I made some of the shirts with bargello but only down the front and not the sleeves. They are beautiful, have sold many at our Holiday Fair.
This was a great tute, very easy to follow you must be a teacher. Where did you get that name uglycook?? It makes me sad when I see that. I hope it is a funny story. MNM

Pat,
I am not a teacher by profession, but am a "natural" teacher, always have been. I had, at one time, considered going into education but it never worked out.

My screen name is just one I made up after I had been trying to sell kitchen stuff at home parties. I made some horrendous messes at people's houses!  Not referring to myself, but my cooking methods.

I knew it had to be something funny. Thanks for the explanation. MNM

Since it was mentioned that someone had sold these sweatshirt beauties, and since I have a ton of sweatshirts that I want to do this with as a fund raiser for our Auxiliary, could I ask how much you charged for your quilted sweatshirts?
My thinking is a yoke, some on the sleeves, and perhaps some applique on the front + binding all around the cuffs and edges, if that helps any <wave>

I'd guess over here on the western side of the state maybe $45...but oer there probably a bit lower. But that's truly just wild guessing.

Omak, I live way out in the woods and our Fair is small and our people don't have much money but they did pay from $25. to $45 for a sweat shirt. It all depended on what amount of work went into it. I have a friend that does cut work on sweat shirts and she gets a good price for hers always, up to $65. I do not have the info on how to do those but will try to get it. I know there is an under lay of fabric, contrasting to the sweat shirt , and then she sews a pattern over both and then cuts out the sweatshirt material leaving the under fabric showing. Now that I have totally confused you I will try to get the instructions. May take awhile , like I said I live way out and don't see some of my friends often. MNM
