awesome, tutorial, thanks for taking the time to make it for us!

Thanks so much for informative and easy to follow instructions for a beautiful jacket. I love yours! I will certainly try this!
Blessings to you and those you love. |
Thanks for posting the great tute. I have been wanting to try this and have even looked at a few patterns, but never saw any that I really liked. Your jackets look great and your explanations are well done. I think I am going to give it a try.

How did you finish off the collar and cuffs? I'd love to see finished one too!!!!! Looks neat!

I made a t-shirt jacket for DD for her birthday. I didn't care for the patchwork and did mine all in left over batik. It was very easy and a short project. I will make more for Christmas.

I used the basics in the tutorial and used the sweat shirt as my pattern. I spray basted the fabric to the finished side of the sweatshirt (it had a picture of a fish on it). I quilted it with straight lines to keep it from being too busy. Then I sewed the sweatshirt/fabric together as shown in the pictorial. I finished it all the was around with bias binding. I used the 2 1/2 in double fold. I started at the bottom of the back and went completely around the front, the neck, the other front and then to the back. It finished really easily. I has a business appearance and keeps her warm in cold air conditioning at work. It gives her hugs from me every time she puts it on. :D

I cut a v-shape in the neck on one side approximately where I thought it should be and matched the other front to it. I used the shape of the sweat shirt for the neck back. I also used bias binding on the sleeves. The basic tutorial is a great place to jump off and design something uniquely your own.

Thanks so much. I have so many sweat shirts and now I can use them.

GREAT JOB AND LOOK. I TRY NEW BLOCKS AND OR DESIGNS I SEE ON MINE. PRACTICE ON THE JACKET BEFORE A WHOLE QUILT.
THIS ONE I WILL HAVE MY 9 YR OLD GRANDAUGHTER TRY BY HERSELF. SHE LOVES TO USE THE DECORATIVE STITCHES ON HER MACHINE. CAROL (NANA) |
Just found your tutorial (which was GREAT, by the way) and am going to try it. Do you by any chance have photo(s) of your finished jacket(s)? I believe it would really help.

Thank you so much for the wonderful tutorial. Can't wait to get started but have one sweatshirt to finish and another one to do so it probably won't happen until next year but I'm definitely going to do one of these.

Hi. I am newly registered here/lurker. THANK YOU! This is the best tutorial I have seen for this jacket. Thank you for taking the time to do this. My Mom and daughter will have many patchwork jackets because of you. lol

Thank you so much. Should be able to follow.

I cut the neck ribbing off, as well as cutting up the center front after I've finished all the "patchwork", and put binding on neck, front, and bottom. I usually put a cuff/border on the sleeve so I can turn up the sleeves a little bit. A lady came to our quilt guild and did a workshop on these shirts. On some of them, she left the neck ribbing on, and put the bottom ribbing back on and didn't cut them up the front -- and her husband wears some of them. The ones she showed us were just gorgeous. I'll see if I can find some pictures and post them later.
What a wonderful tute you gave us. Thanks so much. This was a great tute, very easy to follow you must be a teacher. Where did you get that name uglycook?? It makes me sad when I see that. I hope it is a funny story. MNM |

Just had to jump in here and say that I made some of the shirts with bargello but only down the front and not the sleeves. They are beautiful, have sold many at our Holiday Fair. MNM[/quote] Pat, I am not a teacher by profession, but am a "natural" teacher, always have been. I had, at one time, considered going into education but it never worked out. My screen name is just one I made up after I had been trying to sell kitchen stuff at home parties. I made some horrendous messes at people's houses!  Not referring to myself, but my cooking methods. |

Since it was mentioned that someone had sold these sweatshirt beauties, and since I have a ton of sweatshirts that I want to do this with as a fund raiser for our Auxiliary, could I ask how much you charged for your quilted sweatshirts?
My thinking is a yoke, some on the sleeves, and perhaps some applique on the front + binding all around the cuffs and edges, if that helps any <wave> |

Well, thank you, MNM  !
It sounds like your friend is doing a bit of reverse applique. Maybe someday I will do something like that, but it is a bit more ambitious than I tend to think about <g>. I really appreciate all your input, help, and ideas <wave> |
Oh that is just lovely. All my favorite colors. And it looks kind of fuzzy. What kind of material did you use??
Oh,, hi all,, I'm new,, I just love this pattern :-D Candy |

I would really like to thank you, Uglycook, for the easy tut on the patchwork jacket. I have always wanted one znc it was on my "to do list", but I was a little intimidated. With DGD coming for a visit, it was the perfect opportunity to try making a small one. And it was easy, although took more time than I thought it would. Thanks again -- she just loves it and I think I will make one for me now!
|
Oh my goodness. What a cute jacket and a totally adorable little girl! I'm going to save a copy of your pictures. Thank you so much for sharing them.
|
Well, I am sold. I am going to start small and try one for my DGD who is almost 5 yrs. old. I think if I use some fairy fabric and maybe some poodles and some florals she will absolutely love it! Especially if I let her help with it!
Thanks for taking time to make this great turtorial! |
Just beautiful, really nice job. Thank you so much for this design. Violet

Awesome jackets and terrific tutorial! Very clear and easy to understand.
Great job - can't wait to make one myself :) Thanks for taking the time to do this for us! Debbie in Austin |

Uglycook, you inspired me to make a vest I've wanted to make for a long time. This is to celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead which is in November. Thank you!!
|
Wow! That is awesome! I've seen that fabric and wondered what people will do with it.
