Hi there! This is my absolute favorite block of all of them. You should go check out my pattern before you go buy Thangles. It is made up completely with 2" and 2 1/2" squares. No funky measurements. If you make some make sure you post pictures. I love to see them all. Here's the link to my pattern.

Love this block how would I figure out the cutting/block size to make this a table topper so it measures a 24 inch block finished ?

Hi BMP! This is my favorite block of all. To make it a 24", cut the squares 3 1/2" instead of 2", and the half squares 4" instead of 2 1/2". That should do it. Please post pictures when you get it finished. I would love to see it, as I know everyone else would too.

Many thanks, when I looked at it I thought - no way can I do that. I'm still not sure if I can, but your directions make it sound possible.

Hi Betty, Thank you for your compliments. I think you can make it. It's a pretty simple block, just lots of pieces and lots of seams. Please post a picture of your block when you get it finished. I would love to see it. I too love this block. It's my favorite. Thanks!

Boy! I am so glad I found you. I have been wanting to make the Carpenter Star for quite some time but couldn't follow directions. You made it soooooo easy. Thank you. I am new to quilting and have made a number of quilt blocks but darn I couldn't get this one until I found you.
I do have a question. Your picture is pink, blue and white and very pretty, but how do you tell which color is light or dark. I want to do one like yours but I also would like to do one in Christmas colors of red, green and white. Which would be light red or green if they are both bright colors or doesn't it matter? Again Thank you for your help.

NICE !!!!

mumzer 10-21-2011 04:51 PM

Thanks so much for the pattern. I just started a Jely Roll for the first time but as soon as I am done I will do the Carpenter star. Don't have a printer so copied everything onto graph paper and have all my material ready. Can't wait to get started.

I just love your avitar. I looked it up on the link. Yours has quilting in the center and pieced tree's doesn't. Was that something you added yourself?

After months of stalking this thread, I finally made mine! Its the center of a quilt for my cousin who is graduating this year. So its his school colors. I have a lot more to add to the quilt, but so excited the center came out as well as it did! its 48x48. Sorry it's not the best quality picture, took it with my cell phone, I'll have a better pic when the quilt is done.

JUNEC 11-02-2011 04:17 PM

So MandalLynn - What size blocks did you use 6 1/2" & 7" blocks??

Close, I did 6.5 and 7.25 to be safe and resquared them.

Here is a pic with the border I did tonight. Next I'm adding French Braids to the top and bottom to add the length to the quilt.

Thanks so much! I love the carpenters wheel/star. Another member on the board sent me the directions for her carpenter's block star that, when finished, is about 3 FEET square!! All my 12" or 18" practice blocks make up the back of the quilt. It was really easy & BIG!!!

DeMaris 12-14-2011 08:47 PM

Thanks....
