This seriously changes (part of) my life!

Beginning Square Size x 0.64 = HST size

or

HST / 0.64 = Beginning Square Size

I've use this technique quite a few times in verious sizes - always use BestPress, and have never had a problem - Soooooo Nice and Fast!

I had not heard of this way to make HST before. I like it. It is similar to the way I make mine. I get 8 HST out of my squares and not on the bias.

I don't have pictures and don't know if I can explain it well but..... I also start with 2 squares of fabric and mark diagonal lines from the corners (my lines would be where this way shows you cut). I sew 1/4" away from the drawn lines. Then I cut along the lines (in an X) and also across both ways (in a +) This gives me 8 HST.

To figure out size - take the finished size wanted and double it then add 2" for seam allowances. 2 x 2 + 2 = 6" squares for 2" finished or 3 x 2 + 2 = 8" squares for 3" finished.

I always make mine this way when I have a lot of HST's to make for a project.

This is neat. Love it!

I haven't seen it done exactly like this. Thanks for posting it.

I've seen this several times on here and on you tube but have yet had anyone explain how to do it when you need a certain size triangle. Like the one method you just add 7/8 to what ever the finished size that is needed. But this one how do you measure the block if you want a specific size half square.

thank you -- making 4 at a time is better than just 2!

I want the completed square to be 12 1/2 so how big should the blocks of fabric that you sew a round and cut be my math is terrible
TIA
