Ok Great. Thanks so much for sharing, as I have been struggling to make a quilted jacket. I'll wait for the next one. This one is a keeper. Oh buy the way, I love your pictures of the samples of your jacket. Thank you soooooo much.

ilovetosew 03-14-2011 05:32 PM

Thanks for this tutorial! I have a sweatshirt cut apart but it's been sitting there for months and I haven't been brave enough to start. I'll try this!

I'm in Erie, Where are you located? Just wondering.

Chigger Holler Quilter 03-15-2011 05:42 PM

This is a great tute and an inspiration! This is a project that I've wanted to do for quite some time. Have you ever taken an of the bulk out of the sleeve? (Something I've been thinking about.) We all need to post our finished jackets! Thanks, Terri!

I didn't really find any bulk in the sleeve, but maybe I'm not understanding what you mean as bulk. The sleeve will actually lay flat once the ribbing is off of the cuff.

Can't wait for pt 2 to this jacket. I am large and have a hard time finding a sweatshirt. But I have some odd green sweatshirt fabric so why not cut one out and then do this? I have not seen the finished product but it seems you could use small 1 yr pieces for front, back and sleeves if the actual sweatshirt is not going to show except inside. Hummmmm my juices are flowing. Ok bring on pt 2...Alamoaa

tlrnhi 03-21-2011 04:15 AM

Page 4 has the rest of the tute.
I didn't do one for the binding.
Put the binding on the same way you would do a quilt. Everyone has their own way of binding, so I didn't do that on here.

lindy-2 03-21-2011 07:01 AM

wow this is cool i think il make one for my mom

AlamoAA 03-21-2011 07:49 AM

I am having trouble finding pg 4 I see pgs 8-9 after pgs 1-3 and ....between. I am new to this site and I do not see a search topics in the topics which would be nice instead of cruising thru 234 pages of tutorials. Any suggestions as to how to find a specific quilt pattern or tutorial on a quilted bag etc..? But I think I found the finished jacket on 8-9 but can't access pages between. Sorry but I am a novice here. AlamoAA

Butterflyspain 03-21-2011 08:30 AM

Just click on the page numbers and eventually you will get page 4 come up for you

Love all the jackets, this is sooo pretty, I'm going to make MIL one for her birthday.

QuiltingQueen 03-24-2011 04:04 AM

Lovely jacket! Do you use 2 1/2in binding, folded in half? Should it be cut on the bias as the sweatshirt is a knit?

thank you again! I can't wait to try it!!!

I just bought bias binding at the store. Not sure of the size, wasn't the wide stuff.
I suppose you could make it yourself if you wanted

QuiltforPD 03-24-2011 09:25 AM

Could you post a pic of you in your jacket? I am just curious about how it looks on completed.

tlrnhi 03-24-2011 09:39 AM

The jacket I made in the tute is too big for me. It'd look horrid!

QuiltforPD 03-24-2011 09:55 AM

okay, well crap. I guess I will have to make one and just see myself then won't I. Thank you for the tut by the way. I was pretty scared to try this out but I think that I can do it just off of your tut!

I am going to make one too. Just washing my sweat shirt. tried to buy one but here in Spain temps have gone up to around 72F and rising. Thiswill be ideal in the winter for me because the houses are made of cement here and are really cold during our winter (no central heating) so thats my plan to be ready for next year.

If I can make one, ANYONE can.

I used a size medium for the one I made for me, I think. I'm actually going to give it to my oldest daughter

Erie, PA? I was born there!

I have a couple of sweatshirts that have old printing on them- covering them with fresh fabric would give them a new appearance!

Love the pictures and instructions, both yours and the others that posted. (The Blue one is lovely!!!)

Boslie 03-24-2011 08:46 PM

Well I'll be darned! Actually a person that can identify with where I was born also. How about that!

Boslie 03-24-2011 08:48 PM

Wondering how you match the sleeves to the sweatshirt. If you have time could you tut that also?

Butterflyspain 03-25-2011 12:08 AM

The sleeves are easy. Just follow the tute on page 4. you might have to wrangle a bit with it, but sleeves are always a pain, in my opinion.
The secret is...pin, pin, pin. Make sure you don't stretch the shirt while you have been sewing

jackiefurl 03-26-2011 01:05 PM

Wonderful jacket. I've always wanted to do that! I'm anxious for "the rest of the story?"

The complete thing is page 6.

jackiefurl 03-26-2011 02:35 PM

Thanks, this is just awesome.

sodapop-007 04-14-2011 06:23 AM

Just wondering if you have finished the jacket yet?
Would like to see the rest of your tutorial.
Thanks

I thought I had posted a picture of the finished jacket. Silly me, I didn't. I'll get that posted today.
I didn't put any buttons on it, just left it open. This one is for me. I was going to put a zipper in it, but the zipper I bought was too long, so I scrapped that idea.

JuneBillie 07-09-2011 04:27 PM

Thank You so much. I don't understand most tutorials, but this one is so nice. It means so much. I hope you do more tutorials for those of us that have a hard time understanding. I will be trying one of these. So beautiful is your jacket.

QuiltnNan 07-09-2011 05:59 PM

thanks for the tut

blueangel 07-10-2011 07:32 AM

Thank you

Lucky Lady 07-11-2011 04:04 AM

This looks really neat. I will have to try it. Thanks for posting it.

Diamondrose 08-15-2011 01:21 PM

Just wanted to say thank you for is tutorial. I've had a number of compliments on the jacket I made following it but the blue ribbon I won at the county fair when I entered the jacket was the icing on the cake.

harvsstuff 08-15-2011 02:23 PM

I make a similar s/s but I like them longer so I cut a strip about 4 inches wide and long enough to go around and sew it to the bottom of the s/s and then cut my pcs apart. The seam will be facing towards the fabric you are adding so it wont that be noticable on the inside. Your tutorial was one of the best I have seen , thank you for your hard work.

Quiltlady330 08-27-2011 06:05 PM

Love these jackets. The possibilities are endless. Made one for myself and one for my granddaughter. She loved hers and wore it with boots to school. ;-)

PolkaBabe 10-02-2011 11:16 AM

Thank you for taking the time to do this tutorial. It is well done.

keegancak 10-02-2011 04:46 PM

Love your quilted jacket. Have you posted the rest of it yet? Would love to see how you worked the rest and the finished product.

sewbeadit 10-14-2011 12:26 AM

You could use a favorite sweatshirt pattern and just cut the pieces out of some leftovers too. Great tut.
