when you have drawn a line and then want to erase it how can it be done. I can get most of the lines to erase except for one across the middle. Thanks

Anything I could have done better? were the pictures enough or should I have added a couple more or so along the way? any feedback is welcome and you might help someone else if you post your experiences. Thanks everyone!!

as a sewing, quilting, and serging teacher, I think you did a great job...just enough information to get us working with plenty to practice on and you certainly enticed us for next week's lesson...and yet you did not overwhelm with too much technical stuff or too many choices...very well prepared...I asked before and was hoping to find out if the lessons will be left on QB or will the be replaced one week at a time? thanks for all your hard work...

This was one I didn't know! I know you can undo with edit but it will only undo for a few and then you are stuck. I always just started a new block when I couldn't erase something. I'll have to try this tip. Thanks deemail!

thanks for the great feedback deemail! I just try to do it the way I would want to see it.

Sorry I did answer earlier. Go back 8 posts and you will see it. here it is again so everyone can find it

Yes the classes will remain on the board as long as the board is online as far as I know. I post them in Tutorials and then there is a section in Topics List for anything pertaining to EQ so I am adding the lessons to that list so you can see them all in one place. I did the Sampler Quilt Along last year and it is still on here. They really are just threads but I call them classes because I try to interact as often as possible while the class is fresh.

I still couldn't make them disappear with the delete button but found that if I right clicked on a line a window popped up that allowed me to change the lines to "guide lines" and then another right click on the lines and it allowed me to delete them

She tried using several differant titles and none of it worked. The system can not read the new title. So we are trying a differant "run around the endzone" but I don't know if it will work. I hope to hear from her that it worked. If it worked I will post the solution.

yes it worked I thank you so very very much!

Fantastic!! Ok everyone. If you have a EQ5 and you can't get it to load a New project just let me know. Verna had this problem and she had tried to put in several project names but it didn't work. She didn't use any punctuation or anything.

So since the problem is the EQ5 is old and the new system doesn't want to connect with the old program in the opening box-- I sent her a file from my EQ and she opened it in her EQ and it let her save as a new file and allowed her to get into her EQ5. I just sent her the file I started when I wrote the first class. The one I named New. I chose it because it was the smallest EQ project file I had and I wanted to make sure it would go through email ok.

I am so excited to know this as it is another "run around" we can use when someone has this problem.

deemail 11-08-2011 03:31 PM

Excellent! great to know we can find a way....I had just never had this kind of problem before so i thought it was some kind of disc glitch ... glad she is off and running...

Where there is a will there is way! I am stubborn and I don't give up easily. It will bug me until I come up with a solution or it is proven to be absolutely unsolvable.

hmmm...just went to try again and it worked as it always had...did you change your tool to the 'Select tool' before you tried to delete it? not that it matters if you can get there otherwise, but if you have one bad line and convert, it is going to make them all guidelines and that MAY not be what you want... i'm in 5...is that a difference for you?

deemail 11-08-2011 03:41 PM

one of my favorite quotes, "I am persistent, you are stubborn, she is obstinate!" that's how we get those points to come out JUST RIGHT...:D

Hi and thank you for this! I have EQ7 and can't find "easy draw". I did find the draw button and when I drew a line, I couldn't get it to stop drawing. Every time my curser went past the screen it made a new line. When I finally somehow got just one line I clicked the "color" tab at the bottom and then the colors appeared. When I selected one it colored the entire block as my line was gone. Don't know if I'm in the wrong mode but can't get this to work. Please help. Thank you.

Philarena 11-08-2011 08:05 PM

Thank you so much, Rhonda, for this wonderful and easily understood beginning tutorial on EQ! I have version 7 and was able to follow along and play and just had the most fun imaginable! It's not often that I take the time to play around like that and it sure felt good. Your teaching skills are excellent and the steps were very easy to follow. I am really looking forward to the next lesson and more 'play-time'. Thank you so much for giving us your valuable time! I appreciate it and I'm sure everyone else taking this class does, too.

You need to be sure you go to Worktable.
Click on Work on Block. This will put the Block tool in your top tool bar

Now you will see the picture below.
click on Block and then slide over and click on Easy Draw Block

When you get that done then click on the pencil that draws a straight line.
You only need to do the Easy Draw Block if you need a new block to work on. If you have a block you are using you don't need to go to this step.

The reason your line disappeared is because you have to make sure you start and stop on a dot. it has to be connected to one of the dots that are connected to an already existing line. To begin with this means the lines of the frame. After you connect a line to the frame then you can connect another line to the frame and the line you drew as long as that line connects to the frame.

If you don't connect it that line will disappear. Look at the second picture below and the last picture you can see the short lines didn't stay but the long ones connected to the sides did. As long as you connect to one of those solid lines not just the frame you should be okay.

Rhonda, when I click on the layout box at the bottom, I get a custom set layout screen. I don't see the screen that you are talking about. I have EQ7.

What are you wanting to do? Are you wanting to work on the block I was talking about or to work on a quilt layout?

I have EQ7but have never really played with it. Will you cover that?

verna2197 11-09-2011 03:34 PM

Just wanted to let everyone that has EQ5, this is what I finally did and its working. I deleted it off my computer and reinstalled it. Now its working just fine and I am so glad that I did that. So if you are having troubles with your EQ5 then try this.

I will be covering all 3 versions. Where I can I will show all 3 of whatever we are talking about and how the versions vary. When we get into the features that EQ5 does not have I will do my best. NO quaranties as I just got my EQ7 last Thurs and will be trying to keep ahead of the classes. But a lot of what I see in 7 works just like 5 and 6 so I will be able to get quite aways through 7 before I run into things I don't know. At least I hope! LOL If we do run into things I dont' know I will be searching and trying to learn it so I can pass it along.

If anyone has any questions of things in 7 that I can research then please let me know. I know someone wanted to be able to pull a quilt apart and see all the components and I am working on that one. I also don't know much about paper piecing on 7 so I will be checking that out soon too so I can show you how it works.
Anything else I can look into before we get into these in class? Remember I am not an expert just sharing what I do know how to do on EQ. Anyone knows more than I please jump in and give advice if you want to! there's lots I don't know so I am thrilled if anyone can help out.

Posting your experiences is a great way to help others! Don't be shy to share your EQ journey!

I would love to see pics of your quilt blocks and quilts along the way too!!!

I haven't used any of these other products. You could ask on the Board and see if anyone else has had any experience on this.

Thank you! I am just starting to work my way around and although not through the first lesson yet I just wanted to say your instructions are so clear and precise, thank you!! ok now back to the classroom!

BonniFeltz 11-10-2011 06:04 AM

Thanks for doing this Rhonda. It took me a little bit to work through your instructions but that was only because a) it was me (LOL) and b) I have EQ7 and am not familiar with it or any other version. I did manage to find the links after a little search and am looking forward to more lessons.

Alondra 11-10-2011 07:33 AM

Hey, Rhonda! Thanks for this tutorial. You make it FUN! Your instructions are so clear and logical, even I can do it! Thank you-thank you-thank you! :)
