What is your source for 3-inch paper rolls? So far I can only find 2 1/4 inch rolls here (looked in Walmart and Office Depot)

Rebecca VLQ 08-06-2010 04:27 AM

Oh, that is so awesome! :D

I do tighten the stitches on my machine a bit and I steam press it before removing the paper..adding machine paper seems to be cheap and comes off easily

I got it at Joanns..It was on the notions wall I think...but been so long I can not remember..keep in mind the paper is 3" wide so I am sure your hubby can figure it out from that..with a small dowel to hold the paper between the 2 pieces of wood..the side pieces aren't necessary for this they are for threads I guess and holes on top to sicssors and seam ripper maybe

do you save up the craps and then do a load at a time, or use them as you acquire them? yours seem to be well-mixed.

Quilting Nana 09-08-2010 06:39 AM

waiting for pics :)

I KNOW she meant SCRAPS <g>
I saw a tip one time - - when you have a container full of the same sized anything, then it is time to make a quilt.
For a project like this, I would think that a container the size of the plastic shoe boxes at walmart would be a good guide for when to do the string pieced adding machine tape technique.
But, I am not organized. If I were, this is the way I would do it!
*as she looks around at the 22 plastic shoe box containers full of scraps and remembers the two big boxes upstairs that she "organized" shoe boxes into and thinks - - is this really going to be helpful?????***
<wave>

butterflywing 09-09-2010 10:27 AM

maybe i didn't mean scraps, wise guy!

anyway, i think i would wait a long time, more than a shoebox. maybe a boot box. maybe a dresser drawer. then scramble them around really well. i think diversity is the key so the string matches everything.

OR! You could tell your good friend that you need her to send one of HER shoe boxes and get one made just lickety split! LOL <wave>

Hi everyone. I'm very new to the board but not to quilting so feel like a real ninny for not understanding this tute about string piecing on adding machine paper. I don't understand what the point of the paper is. Sorry, I love the look of all the quilts made from the strips but am quite stumped as to why you need the paper. Please enlighten me lovely ladies.

The paper acts as a stabilizer and guide. <wave>

What is a pantogram please?

I'm not sure what context you are using it in, but I think ... it is a pre-printed quilting pattern. If I am correct, it goes along with a long arm quilting machine and you trace the pattern with a stylus while your machine does the stitching. <wave>

wolfkitty 09-17-2010 08:55 PM

Still so much I do not know. What is the paper for? Does is give support to the small pieces of fabric?

Just saw the comment above. Never mind! Thank you for you help!

pal 09-17-2010 09:22 PM

Hi Sue, thanks for the Tute.

Went back to see what you've made with your little strips and found the curtains. They are absolutely wonderful!

The strips on paper are a good project when you want to do something productive but don't want to get into anything too deep - like after you've just cleaned everything up and don't want to make a big mess again. Then, when you're ready to mess up again, your "fabric" is ready. Can't wait to start.

sawsan 09-18-2010 05:58 AM

I love your work and saw your roll round your avatar pic and the bag the other work
thanks 4 sharing

What a fantastic idea! I'll have to borrow that one.

zquilter 09-22-2010 01:47 AM

When and how do you take the paper off? I loved your quilts done from these strips.

Once you are ready to make your blocks take paper off but for some blocks it is easier to just take it off after. Have to try and see which is best for you
