You use tiny machine stitches when sewing to the paper, and then tear it off when you're finished. I think freezer paper would be too hard to tear because of the plastic backing. |

I think this idea has all our creative juices flowing. Love your accent, Quilting addictUK!! (especially "right chuffed! - one of my friends here in Canada is from Wales!) http://inlinethumb28.webshots.com/14...425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb53.webshots.com/42...425x425Q85.jpg |
Who did it? How'd it turn out? Photo?

just wondering why you would paper piece these strips. I thought it was more for things with points to get them more accurate

Oh well, fabric shop here I come. I love this whole idea of using the paper. Wonky quilt, here I come. Thanks for the tute. Love it.

I like it sort of wonky rather than each piece cut exactly the same and sewn straight..but you can do either I start with my paper in a box or in the pic you can see I use the thread holder...anything to keep it from rolling all over. I cut my scraps anywhere from about 1" wide to 1 1/2" wide and about 3 1/2" long. First you lay one piece right side up on the end of your paper...lay the next strip face down on that and sew as shown using 1/4" seam allowance.. Flip it back and finger press and then lay the next piece face down on that and repeat...I like to sew them at a little angle here and there to make them "wonky".....continue on as long as you like but I find normally I stopped at about 1 yard of the piecing and trimmed it as shown and then rolled it up and continued on...make sense? Been nice to hear so many are interested in this. Love to see more pictures! |
THANK YOU Sue Fish as I have found a completely new use for my scraps, on Friday I made a 9 yard designer Jelly Roll, made a Project Linus quilt and now all my Patchwork class Ladies are going to do a Piano key border on the Split 9 patch quilts they are making, so they thank you too.

Piano Key Border, hmmm.. sounds interesting, what is that exactly? Like to make one, one that actually looks like piano keys, we've got friends who play music. Think they'd love that touch to the border of their quilts.
|
Now that's a; cute one quilting addict.
One I think kids would love too. I have many scraps, I'm always sewing them together, just in case.. hehe. Beats tossing them into the trash. I'm going to make a pet quilt soon with them.

I found 12 rolls for about 17.00 at Sams Club. Were 3 1/8" wide. Maybe you can find friends to split a box with you.
