And, I had a bummer moment this morning.
I got into my "stash" and found a cowboy jelly roll, purchased from a local quilt store ... purchased before I understood that a jelly roll SHOULD consist of 40 strips ... Well! I own 33 strips :-( - - oh, well, not a problem ... I have two options cut more strips from my western fabric (which I own half the company <g>) ... or just work with the jelly roll and see what we end up with.
I am thinking just work with the jelly roll ... I mean, all we need is the pictoral concept, right? <g> and something else I discovered when I pulled the jelly roll out of its hiding place:
Commercially produced jelly rolls have pinked edges, which lessens the amount of fraying on the edges while stored. Now, we do have pinked blades to do such work with ... so, lesson learned - -
check the number of strips in a jelly roll
AND!
Use a pinked rotary cutter blade when cutting strips OR use the roll as soon as you have cut the strips with your normal cutter blade.

Yes, started with 40 strips.
The center measures about 52 x 65".
I had a Moda jelly roll here called "Gypsy Rose".

Yes, I believe this is the "Lasagne Quilt" pattern.

That is the PERFECT size for our veterans' quilts ... we stay pretty close to 60 x 72 (big enough to cover one in bed, but folded in half fits well in a wheelchair) ...
It really won't matter how big the thing ends up with this smaller amount of strips, considering the fact that I can put borders on it to end up with a size that I want.
I am just sort of bummed out that the quilt shop owner didn't even bother to try to duplicate the reality of a jelly roll ... I guess I feel sort of "tricked" ... oh, well ... live and learn <g>

I looked up the "Lasagna Quilt" and the ones I found show different directions.

This just sounds like so much fun! Something to do with those ends of fabric! Thanks so much for sharing and to all others who share wonderful ideas here!

That looks great and quick and easy. We are always looking for ways to use those jelly rolls. They are so pretty to buy, but then what do we do with them? Happy Quilting Catherine
