Turning 2.5” Scraps into a Log Cabin Block
#32
I'd make the center "off-center" intentionally to add interest to the setting. My quilt had nine blocks down, and it was off center. I wanted extra length so the quilt would tuck under my mattress.

Here is a layout that is six across and eight down in the barn raising setting. If you added one more block to the width, the layout would be off center. Any time an odd number of blocks is used, the design will be off center.

I thought yours was 6x9 blocks and I like the 'off-center' layout, so yours works out to approx. 60"x 90".
I wanted a bit wider and less length, so I thought a 7X8 layout. Guess I could add a border but I don't want to do that.
Decisions, decisions.

Your tutorial is great: clear directions, great diagram, and wonderful samples showing each step! And the additional hints you gave throughout the thread are very informative.
Thank you for sharing with us!

Thank-you for this tutorial. The pictures along with detailed instructions are wonderful. I absolutely cannot get your quilt example out of my mind thinking about all the scrappy 2.5 candies I have ready to go!
As someone else has already stated it is obvious that you spent a great deal and thought in sharing this with the board and for that I again say, thanks so much!
