I finished pre-washing all of my fabric today and I was really lucky; none of my fabric bled. I was told over 30 years ago that when I bought new fabric I should put it in the dirty clothes basket and wash it with like colors; that way I would know that any fabric in my stash had been washed, dried and ironed. I still follow that principle and I've never had a problem; not even with my batiks.

DeeCee...I'm in the JTG club and have done 4 of the blocks in the original 7" size. The points are kinda tricky on some of the smaller leaf shapes, but thats all. I'm doing needleturn at night in front of the tv with DH. I found that if I take a little smaller stitch, it all works out just fine.

Thanks for the lotion tip Elle....funnily enough I was going to go get this stuff called Udder Cream. It is really good too...so I'm told..I've never used it. I'll order some of the lotion with my next Amazon order.

Sharon and Ducks..glad to hear I'm not alone but I have to admit to really really missing my dishwasher....AND my ice-maker. :roll

Losie- Yippee!!! Good for the fabric...now you are ready to go!

Patti, I DO have an ice maker! And I LOVE it. It works just fine.

DeeCee, I'm doing the 7" size, but not needle turn. Machine applique like in the tute I posted. I also am using Razzle Dazzle in the bobbin. Turned out fairly well, except for the 1st block I did, because I didn't follow the cardinal rule of FMQ - use a practice sandwich to warm up with. Will re-do it & photo it & post it.

Patti, If that kitchen of yours is big enough for a claf to walk arounf, mooing (sorry to bring up our recent loss) I would think you'd have room for a portable dishwasher. I had one & loved being freed up. My hands also loved it. I had severly cut my hand on a broken glass in the water, cut the artery on a holiday with DH in New Jersey & I was home with 2 little ones in New Hampshire. Company from church was coming & I had to be driven to the hospital as I couldn't get the bleeding to stop. My first experience with stitches & one area wasn't numb - 4 great big eyes watching everything that was going on! L-shaped scar right over the knuckle of my right index finger - 7 stitches. Did you all know that it is really hard to tie a stitch back once it has come undone?

Patti, I checked out the Norwegian Formula, and you can get it at a Target or Walgreens....at least a web site says that. I'm going to check into it.

I have posted my first 4 blocks, each under the Block # heading. It's easier to go to the Topics List, then Affairs of the Heart & see our threads there.

    Good night all!

Nice to know there are some 7"ers forging ahead and I can be guided by your experience.

I love the look of the Razzle Dazzle in the pics but have yet to see it in the flesh. All the blocks posted have beautiful fabrics and work in them. I don't think I am up to bobbin work though.

Having done cross-stitch and embroidery I have lots of DMC and decorative threads but nothing for applique (apart from the 3 colours I am using for the Penny Haren BOM). We have the Australasian Quilt Convention coming up soon and I am hoping to get some threads there.

I have also used Norwegian Formula. Great stuff!

Are you meaning that you intend to actually stitch the apps. down with the DMC? I'm not sure that would be the best thread to use for that, a single thread would soon get thinner as you pulled each stitch through the batik, though I have found two threads good for the embroidery part.

No - I meant I have plenty of DMC for the embroidery, but I don't have many suitable threads/colours for stitching the applique pieces. I will definitely need to purchase some, but not quite sure what is available. I need to do a bit of shopping.
