When I had cats I was always so careful about not leaving pins and needles, especially threaded needles, laying around. Cats are attracted to strings and threads and pretty-shiny things. I remember walking into my sewing room one morning and the thread from the spool on my sewing machine was wound around EVERYTHING in the room. They had quite a night!

A hard lesson was learned when one of our cats, several years ago, took a spool of thread off the sewing machine and played with it. Thread was found wrapped around his tongue, cutting into the sides. Luckily, he did not swallow any thread, but the vet bill was expensive. Hate to think what the bill would be now.

That must be a big problem with cats being so able to leap up on top of tables. Neither one of my Westies ever got into any dangerous but each one got a hold of one loaf of bread!

I have a little dachshund puppy. When he was six months he swallowed a bobbin. He started to vomit and would not quit so I took him to the vet. They did an x-ray and it showed what the vet said was a "round object". They did an endoscopy and pulled out the object and turned out to be a sewing machine bobbin. I was so embarrassed. Needless to say I no longer allow him to roam around in my sewing room

Oh a teeny tiny bit of poly stuffing got my cat into the vet's and an barium x-ray! put a door on my room after that!!!

Awwww, a dachsie puppy. I love dachshunds! I have one that is a mix and he was a terror when he was a pup. I still have several spools of thread with teeth marks and a splice on the cord of my foot feed for the serger where he chewed it in two. I used to have to go over the whole sewing room when I was done to make sure nothing was left on the floor and check it often while I was sewing. He would eat anything. He was a mess, but I loved him anyway.

I am extremely careful with needles, thread, and even long narrow strips of fabric. I know they can play havoc with an animal's insides. Fortunately, my current boy doesn't get into stuff, but I still don't take any chances. The dog I had before him ... I wouldn't even have considered taking up quilting when I had him. He loved to get into stuff and he was sneaky and quick!!
