Yes, you did the right thing - the way that you can tell is that you're the one who's suffering, now - not your dear pup. I'm so sorry.

I lost both of my old dogs in the last year and it's gut wrenching, at first. But when they get so sick, we have to do what's best for them, since they can't speak for themselves. It's the hardest part of being a dog's "mom," isn't it?

I hope that this gets easier for you every day and pretty soon, you'll have only good memories and smiles when you think about him.

Losing a pet never gets easier. Over the years I have had to make that horrible decision to let them go. When all is said and done you know it was right. When they can't live a good life without pain and suffering they must be let go.

It will be less painful as time goes by.

Lalla, I've always thought our beloved pets just don't live long enough. We've had to say goodbye to many and it's the worst pain. Just know what a wonderful life you gave your doggy. I'm sooo sorry. HUGS.

We love our dogs and when they pass.....oh its just the hardest thing. My heart goes out to you. I wish there something that could be said or done that would ease the pain. I'm truly sorry and hope your days get better.

So sorry for your loss of a dear furry friend. My heart breaks for you as my husband and I had to do this with our little poodle. It is hard to see them suffer and it was selfish on our part to let go but you did the right thing for your doggie. Just go back and enjoy the fun times and lots of memories. I know you have a part of your heart broken and I am sure you did everything possible. Deepest sympathy go out to you.

I'm so sorry; I will never forget the loss many years ago of our farm dog Taffy, a white German Shepard. She was a constant companion of our youngest son and had to be put down after years of faithful service. Since then we have lost four dogs (Border Collies) and with each loss a piece of our hearts go with them.

The time difference between the US and Hong Kong means my replies/contributions often come belatedly. I’ve opened my computer this morning to such kindness and so many hugs.

I have a friend who refers to what she calls ‘accurate hugs’ - not just any old hug, a carefully placed, well-thought out ‘accurate’ hug. It’s one of those phrases that takes up permanent residence in one’s own, personal lexicon. I feel so many accurate hugs helping me through this unimaginable pain that so many of you can imagine only too well, from your own personal experience. Thank you so very much, it means such a lot to me that so many new friends have taken the time to be so kind.

Rainbow Bridge (Death of a Pet)

Submitted By: LibbyJoThere is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who were sick, hurt or in pain are made whole again.
There is only one thing missing,
they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth.
So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches! The ears are up!
The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group!
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him in your arms and hug him.
He licks and kisses your face again and again -
and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting
    pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.

Thank you so very much for all the kind, kind thoughts from you all. Cuba’s “Dog Blog” went out today, and I am getting emails from our students, they are so sweet and concerned and sorry. Tychy is being cremated on Monday. We’ll try and find a Chinese dogwood here in Hong Kong and plant it here at Morningside College, so that we can scatter our little boy’s ashes where he was loved and happy. I miss him so much.
