I use a mixture of 1/2 to 1/2. Hope it helps. Get the water hot add the vinegar and let it set, be careful and pour it slowly into the piece. You may have to do it more than once. Good luck!

Why, if it had been washed in dishwasher, there is no hope of removing the film?

Geri, Lemi-Shine removed all traces of film from our glassware washed in the dishwasher for 10 years!

If it is etched from the dish washer, hang it up, there is no help for it...Ask me how I know...

As Geri mentioned if it has been washed in a dishwasher at some time it will not be a "film" which can be removed it will be etched by a combination of strong chemicals and super hot water. Dishwasher detergent/tablets are very alkaline and should not be used for decorative/antique/expensive/fragile objects.

Sometimes the glass can't be saved. We were told not to put our Depression glass in the dishwasher as that would create the problem you're having. Not saying that did it, but saying it may not be fixable. Is there a Depression Glass show in your area? Or an antique store with lots of glassware? That's where to go for help if the suggestions you want to try from here don't work.

Thank you for all this info...I am cleaning out my Auntie's house and have several pieces of Depression glass that I will have to check over. Auntie didn't have a dishwasher, but she acquired many of her lovely items from flea markets and antique shops.

Thanks for the info on dishwasher/antique glassware. I have a small collection, hand wash now and will continue for that reason..and will not be tempted to buy filmy pieces, just in case...I am guessing the filmy look looks the same whether caused by dishwasher or other reasons?

I have had good luck with a soak with vinegar and baking soda in hot water on glass pieces.
