My mum had the prettiest gray hair so as soon as mine started to go gray when I was about 43-44, I stopped coloring it, I've been waiting for the last 25 years for it to go completely gray, she was gray when she was 30. I'm soon to turn 70 and I'm still only about halfway there, it's very aggravating.

Gray for me! I am 63 & I decided when I was working in my early 20's that I would not color my hair when I got older. I remember the "old" people coming every 6 weeks with jet black hair. They did not have the products they do now. But, I don't want the bother!! I got a compliment on my hair color just today!

Funny you should say that! I have decided to go gray myself. I have colored my hair since I was 15, I'm gonna be 57 this year. I too am very tired of coloring every few weeks, it seems like it needs to be done every other week instead of every 6 weeks. I swear my hair never grew that fast! I have my long hair so it's going to take awhile for it to grow out. I've tried to grow it out a few times but when it gets to having half gray and have blonde I usually cave and color again. I can't make myself have the color stripped out....that would be too sudden.
I could have wrote this myself! I have very thick hair past my shoulders. I love it long but after about 3" of grey/white grow in I cave & get it colored. If it was short I would do it myself. I guess I'll try to pull it back during the summer & see if I can live with it. The money is more fun spent on fabric.

Started going grey in my 20's. Colored for over 20 years. I went 'lighter and darker' on my highlighting = and it grew out wonderfully easy. I have been naturally highlighted now for oh, four years now.

I LOVE IT. I have saved thousands of dollars and a tremendous amount of time.

After a bout with breast cancer 6 years ago, I stopped dyeing my hair. It has been very liberating and my hair hasn't been this healthy in years. I now have long, gray, healthy hair. I am 62 and started going gray in my 30's.

After I retire from work I am going to let my hair go gray. It does take a lot of time and money to keep up.

I was a natural dark red head until I turned 24. My hair started to gray with the streak in the front. My sisters, bless their hearts, insisted I color my hair. I bought a box of Lo'Real and colored it. By the time I was 30 I was pretty sure from the looks of my roots that I was completely gray. I colored it for the next 25 years. My husbands didn't even know I colored it until after we were married. I did then, and still do, keep my husband on a 'need to know' basis. They didn't need to know it.

Anyway, about 6 months ago I had a reaction to the dye. I got welts at my hairline. The next time I colored it I tried a different brand - same thing. As soon as the welts and sores would heal It would be time to color it again. I decided "No more" and let it grow out. I keep my hair short so it didn't take long, but boy, did I look ridiculous! I was also worried about how my hair would look.

It looks fabulous! It is shiny platinum (not white, not gray and my stylist says it isn't silver) all over. I couldn't afford to pay someone to color my hair like this. Women - and men! - compliment me about my hair. I can't take credit for it, I got it from my dad.

My sisters, bless their hearts, haven't seen it. I can hardly wait for that day!

I do have to change my wardrobe. I look better in jewel tones and clear colors. When I had the red hair I could wear lighter colors and I always wore a lot of browns and earth tones. They don't look so good now. I also had to change my makeup colors.

I am 57 and was allpretty much white. An ugly, flat, white. So last year after going around feeling frumpy, dumpy & drab, I went and had warm dkish browm woven into my hair. It looks natural. I get it done about ever 2 months & my DH just loves it. Now that it is near Summer I will have some light blonde highlighted into it. I would not do anything at all if it was a pretty white but it is not sparkly at all. Just ugly & flat. I may get it done less, so more white shines through. We shall see. I love this topic and Thank you for starting it. BTW I was much more white that either of my parents that are near 80. *sigh* Made me look so very old!
