A friend of ours has been having a home health aide help him for quite a long time and no longer needs him so much. So I asked about hiring him to help me with organizing my paperwork and cleaning house. He just spent over 2 hours and nearly gassed himself by mixing cleaning products and refused to take any money whatsoever until he feels comfortable working for me. I really want to pay him somehow, but can't figure out how. I guess I will have to pay him a higher wage per hour when he decides that he's ready to accept money. Just when you feel like there aren't good people, one pops up :D

that is nice for him to help you, you could make him a lap quilt, give him gift certificates for restaurants, bake him some goodies

I would suggest gift cards or gift certificates. That's what my MIL did when Hospice helped with her mother because they couldn't take gratuity.
