Dear Amazon in Eva Alabama.. I made your mom-in-laws fried apple pies, Oh my gosh. They are delicious. super. I had never seen a recipe for pie dough made that way. Wow are they good. Just finished frying them, I have an apple tree in my yard and I picked half of them last night. My husband weighted them and it was 8 lbs, So I added a little flour to your 5cups, and it worked. Thank you and your MIL , goodluna in NM

Please do share! My DH loves those things ever since his Grandmother made then when he was little. I MIGHT try my hand at it if it isn't to hard.

It was from amazon on sept 15. I just printed it out. If it is okay with her, I would be glad to attach the recipe.

Ok this is really really a dumb question, but when you talk about shortening, do you mean like lard???? you know the stuff you would use to make pie crusts. Sooooo embrassed asking this questions as I love to cook and bake

I use Chrisco shortening that comes in a can. I had these at Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah, GA and they are to die for!! They are amazing served hot with vanilla ice cream. YUMMY!!!

They are very similar and in most cases you can use them interchangeably.

Lard ... is from an animal source
    Shortening ... is vegetable sourced

Either ways, they are both "fats" that are solidified.

Me? I'd sooner use butter .... from the best source IMHO, the cow! :)
