    Default Making pillowcases but wondering.....

I'm making my first pillowcases even with French seams )
I do have a set that a friend made for me and I find that the trim piece between the case and the cuff always curls every which way. Is the answer to sew it down or make it thinner? My first instinct is to do both.
Has anyone ever sewn the flange down?

I have a friend who always sews down that trim piece at the suggestion of her local quilt shop. Works fine for her. I don't sew it down on mine because I've never had a problem with the piece laying flat, even after washing. Do whatever works for you! It is fun making pillow cases, so easy to personalize.

You can add a thin stabilizer to the fabric. You can certainly sew it down.

Another option is to sew a decorative stitch across the trim piece and then add in to the pillow case.

Make a flange trim piece and top stitch down the seam line. Then add in to pillow case per directions.

Add a decorative ribbon across the trim piece.

FYI: Check the pillow size against the cutting measurements to make sure your pillows fit. Some of the patterns aren't quite big enough for the fluffy pillows.

    Thanks suern3 and Rhonda.
I usually sew down tiny 1/4" flanges but wasn't sure about this wider one.
I finally watched a youtube segment on how to make these and you're right, they are really fun to make.
Back to the sewing room and thanks again.

when i make any more like that, i intend to sew the flange down for certain. i'm tired of it wrinkling out of the dryer.

OK, well that was the most fun I've had in the sewing room for a long time, made two of these
I may have found a use for the ginormous stash.
And this is a useable gift!
One more question for the future. I put the cuff on the same side but I wonder if people make their beds and put the cuff on opposite sides ???? because then the cats would be upside down on one of the pillows. Hmmmmm....
    Thanks everyone.

Just put the cuff on the opposite side. These are good for putting quilts in, wrapping Xmas gifts or using Halloween fabrics for trick or treating bags

i never sew mine down, but I do make them thin. I've also used decorative ribbon on them which worked well.

Make both pillowcases the same way with the cats on the backside positioned, so that they are right side up when the cuff is to the left .... and to the right.
