Was on the news and is online how Michaels had their card scanners swapped out - thieves. I wonder if this is going to be a new trend since the prices of everything is going up.
Have to wonder now if it is safe to pay via a debit card when shopping in person anymore.

It's better to use cash! On Thursday my son received a call from his bank asking if he made any large purchases lately. It seems that there were several overseas purchases of $1200 or more made using his card number. Of course he hadn't, so the bank said they would issue him a new card immediately and put a freeze on his old number. They also are reimbursing him the amount that was supposed to be in his account. thank goodness some banks are being alert to unusual activity on a members account.

yes it happens, I had the same thing happen to after using my debit card to pay for a meal at a fine eating establishment. When they take your card away, they are also copying your numbers....what a hassle.

have you noticed that most stores are asking for your SS # anymore? I won't give it. none of their business. once thieves have that you might as well crawl in a hole. you have nothing left of yourself.

Now they say there are scanners, that thieves can walk by you get really close and scan everything in a man's wallet. Now that is scary. probably has to do with a cell phone, they do just about anything now a days.

I"m thinking of making a pocket for my billfold, lined with foil folded several times. It's gotten so that you can't trust anyone any more. I'm a firm believer in inside the jacket pockets. Purses can be yanked out of your hands way to easily.

Only credit and debit cards that have an RFID chip can be scanned in that manner. If you have a regular credit/debit card someone can not retrieve the information with a portable handheld scanner.

I agree an inside jacket pocket is much safer.

At our community bank-- My daughter has had to have her acct frozen & card changed 2 times in the last year because of things like this. Actually it was everyone from the bank with debit cards!!!
I took 2 old cards & wrapped them in tin foil & then keep good cards in between. I also heard on the news that the newest thing was trying to scam medical cards now.
