I am a frequent shopper for thrift items but I have been extended a word of warning that I want to share with my fellow shoppers. be very, very careful of what you bring home with you. With the outbreak of bedbugs, please be sure to wash anything you buy before you put it anywhere near anything else you have. You might also want to research bedbugs and their eggs just so you can be knowledgable about their appearance.

An exterminator that I talked to said that they can hide in furnitue and apppliances. He also said that normal washing and drying of cloth will kill them because they are sensitive to temperature changes.

I would think twice about bringing home anything upholstered, and if you bring home stuffed animals, put them in the dryer for at least twenty minutes.

Yes, it is a gross thought! Scarry thing is, they were even found in brand NEW items in Malls around the country. ICK!
I think if you wash everything you bring home, youre okay. I do that even with my new fabric.
Just saw a show with the bed bugs in a storage unit. Ick, they were pretty big bugs!

I agree with you! We thought about getting used furniture for our new family room. I wanted a room where the grandbabies could play and have fun. The prices on the used furniture at Salvation Army and Goodwill were higher than new. We bought new furniture for the price of used, and no worry about bugs. (Hopefully, not with new!)

Bed bug cna be picked up any where. One of my renters got bedbugs when someone visiting put their baby in renters' baby crib.
Very costly to get rid of bed bugs.

I agree wash everything. New or used. The thought of them makes my skin crawl.

I agree! My washer and dryer are in my garage. I wash and dry all thrift store/garage sale fabrics before bringing them in my house. Doesn't hurt, might avoid a big problem.
