My sewing room is white and black and it works. It's about feeling comfortable in your own space more than a specific color. I agree with all who say
lighting is far more important.

I would chose a light color to reflect the lighting in the room. I think dark colors may darken it and you need good light to sew.

I would go with a creamy off white. Most anything in a neutral shade should work and not go against fabric.

Mine is "Martha Stewart" horsehair, which is shade of green and I love it. I have read that a light caramel doesn't clash with other colors.

Mine is a very soft peach color when the sun hits it makes the whole room kind of glow with a warm feeling

I opted for a nice sky blue because I share the room with my DH. I have one half and he has the other half separated by some bookshelves. I do like the idea of a nice soft yellow as well. It's whatever color is most comforting to you.

I am so eclectic and love color my ceiling is white but the walls are a jocobean style wall paper in rich navy, green and red with a creamy background. My design wall is a taupe colored piece of flannel that I love since it doesn't reflect the light like white does.

It depends. Pale, pale blue if the studio is on the warm side of the house. Pale, pale yellow if the studio is on the cool side of the house. Or you can't go wrong if you paint it white--a pure white, not a grayed or yellowed white.
