We are not actually in Kilgore, we live out in the country with a Kilgore address, but it is known for the discovery of oil and oil boom back in the day and famous for the Kilgore Rangerettes at Kilgore College.

Rose Festival...although this year the roses will burst forth in July...it's been 10 degrees below normal...the test gardens are sans color.

Possum Trot, KY.... what more can I say, lol ! The possum does "trot" off my porch when I go to our front door and bang on it...otherwise they just sit and look at you like duh - we're eating.
We actually had a Nobel science award winner born here.
The city limits change during the summer ... when the mower hits the sign they just put it back up where it lands...yes, they do...so sometime I have lived in the city limits other times I live way out in the suburbs.
Blink and you'll miss it however, Paducah is between Possum Trot and Monkey's Eyebrow.

Butte Valley teams with American and community pride. In June 2, 1996, this small but energetic community, raised a 30 x 60 ft American flag to fly atop a 200 ft - tall flagpole. Located next to Dorris City Hall, America's tallest flagpole garners immense interest from travelers and residents alike. A community flag raising and barbecue is held annually on the Fourth of July to honor all Veterans and active military who fight to preserve the freedom we all enjoy.
Our flag once flew a tour of duty on one of the big Navy ships but I can't remember exactly which one it was. I should know this. I was the chamber secretary for 2 years.
Hwy 97 has been designated as the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway.
