I just spent several months making a special quilt that I thought would be handed down to my grandaughter one day. I paid a professional to machine quilt it but when I picked it up there were so many tucks, puckers and irregular stitches that it is ruined. Instead of regular "quilting" patterns she used wavy irregular lines crossing each other leaving about 12 inches between. If I try to remove the stitching it will leave holes in the expensive material that I used. The stitches are very small, tight and bunch in many places. Am I justified in insisting that she pay for the quilt? It is ruined and cannot be used.

Yes! You are completely justified in asking that your fee be waived and the cost of your time and materials reimbursed to you... She needs to make it right and explain what happened.

Sorry to hear about your quilt. I would ask her to pay for the quilt or doing something to make it better if she can.

Welcome to the board from NE Ohio where it hasn't been sunny in ONE FULL WEEK. Can't wait for summer!

Good luck with that! That's a tough way to learn to check out other folks work before hand.

There are some wonderful quilters on this site. Check out some of these. Bet you'll be lots happier!

Welcome from Oregon and I'm so sorry you had that terrible experience!!!! If the woman was using a longarm, there's very little in the way of excuses that I would agree to for that kind of problem. I've had trouble on my old machine with the stitch regulator (hence, 1 spi instead of 10 spi), but the tucks, etc....NO excuse!
