Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Yes the brackets are for different size quilts. So you are cutting 2 7/8 strips of fabric and sub cutting (scut) the strips into 2 7/8 squares.

Howdy & welcome from Texas. I've made several kits & yes, the numbers in parentheses do indicate what size quilt you are making. Looks like the instructions are for 3 different quilt sizes. Keep asking questions. This board if full of very helpful & experienced quilters. Someone/or many will have an answer for you. I would love to see the quilt when you are finished. Try to learn how to post pictures so we can see your finished quilt.

Glad it makes sense. The only reason I thought of it was from making clothes. They have the measurements for the different sizes in parentheses.

    Welcome to the board
That's what I'm thinking. I seem to remember a pattern I made doing that. The first number would be the smallest size (Lap or twin), the next would be full size and the final would be queen or king sized. Look on your pattern and see if there is a listing of different size quilts that can be made from the same instructions and check to see what size your kit is for.

You might consider making a copy of your pattern - and then marking/highlighting the numbers you need for the size you are making.
