They are really sweet! Mine is a 10 year old retired racer, who ran in Connecticut. I've had him since he was just over 2 years old, and he might as well still be a puppy. He's good buddies with my little Italian greyhounds, and he's shown me the meaning of "heart dog." His name is Gryffin. ;)

Here he is romping in a friend's yard...

And here he is sunbathing with my Italian greyhounds...

Hello to both of you from Nebraska!

I enjoyed the pics of your dogs. They look so laid back. Did they travel with you? No wonder you had no room to quilt

Thanks, Quilt Mom. Yes, all five dogs traveled with me. The little ones don't usually take up much space, but it certainly was a challenge at times. They are pretty laid back at most times. But they have their silly moments too. I was able to sew a tiny amount, but cutting anything out was pretty much out of the question! LOL

Welcome Karen, glad to have you here. Your greyhound looks like a giant next to the little Italians, but they're all beautiful! :-D

BTW Thanks Loretta for the link to the story about Jasmine the greyhound - I'd missed it before. ;-)

Hi amma, whippets are yet a third breed. If you line up the three breeds next to each other, physically they're very similar. Greyhounds are the largest (generally 60 - 70 pounds), whippets are medium sized (perhaps 30ish pounds), and Italian greyhounds are the smallest at 8-12ish pounds.

Greyhounds and Italian greyhounds are both ancient breeds with examples in the artwork from ancient Rome as well as medieval Europe. Whippets are a recent breed, developed by mixing smaller dogs with greyhounds to achieve a slightly sturder, medium sized sighthound. All can participate in amateur racing and lure coursing sponsored by various dog associations. In the AKC, the Italian greyhound was shown in the toy group, but I think they recently changed that so they show with the hounds.

Here's a clarifying picture, I hope. The big guy is my greyhound. The medium guy is a friend's whippet. And the little guys are some of my Italian greyhounds. :)
