As my username suggests, I am primarily interested in rag quilts. As a guy, quilting isn't a hobby that I expected to enjoy, but it certainly hooked me.

I have a sisten who is into quilting and has made traditional and rag quilts for everyone in the family, but never took the time to make a quilt for herself. I invested in a sewing machine, cutting board, rotary tool and set out to see what I could do...

Surprisingly, it didn't turn out too bad for my first sewing effort since high school home-economics class. It was just a lap quilt, but I have moved onto a queen sized 'rustic cabin' themed quilt that turned out really well.

I figured I should join up so I could talk with other rag quilters and maybe show off a little of my work.

This was my first large project, it is a queen sized rag quilt. I mixed fabrics from different collections, which was a mistake in hindsight. I can sew well enough, but I don't have much tallent when it comes to picking and matching fabrics... All in all, not too bad.

It has only had 2 washings, so the tabs are fraying nicely.

That rag quilt looks great. I've made a couple of them, and really like them. I think your fabric choices look great. Are they flannel? I made one out of flannel and another one out of homespun cloths. I put batting in the flannel one, but in hindsight I wouldn't do that again because it made it really heavy and too warm after a while of being under it. The two layers of flannel (front and back) would be plenty enough by themselves, I think.

Welcome Brandon from Minnesota, love your rag quilts, some of that fabric looks familiar.
