I have 4 1/4 squares and I put two pieces of fabric (rst) and am suppose to cut it into 4 triangles and then use both fabrics and make two 4 hourglass triangles. Is there a trick to doing this? Like how half triangles are put together: (rst) 2 pieces of fabric, draw line down the middle, sew 1/4" on each side and the cut down the middle and then you have two half triangles? So I'm looking for a trick like that to make my quarter triangle hourglass squares. Any help out there? Thanks ahead of time. I'm new here. I've been quilting for 20 years but am mostly self taught except for one class I took or by asking someone at the quilt store how to do something. I am a member of QNNtv.com so I could learn and I come here and read a lot of the discussions you all have. Boy, I enjoy them! Jeanne

First of all...Hi and welcome from Texas. That's the way I do them. If I'm making a 4.5" finished square, I start with 5.5" squares. Sew diagonally to make 2 5" hst's. Put those together and sew in the other diagonal direction. Yields 2 hourglass blocks. You may have to trim down to 4.5".
