I noticed the quilt, too, when I first saw the story. The quilts do mean something to these men and women. A Marine in my son's company who was severely injured in an attack that killed two of their fellow Marines in Iraq in 2003 has the QOV that was covering him when he was taken off the plane back in the US hanging on the wall in his living room to this day.

The quilt guild I belong to makes "Quilts of Valor" quilts. I know they are appreciated by all the people who are given them and the people who make them feel great reward in knowing they made someone something special.

This is a very emotional article. God Bless all of our soldiers & especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. May God bless their families with peace & pride knowing that their child has protected us from "the bullies" that reside in this world.

What a great story , I cry when I read it. I have a grand son on his way to that dark mean hole on the map Afghanistan. Where we are not wanted, please remember all the brave that are sent there in your prayers, for their safety and return home soon.

I make "Quilts of Valor" too. My DH saw that picture and asked if it was one of mine.
