Missouri Star tutorials

Yes, I do like them. I love her easy, friendly manner. But you have to watch them with a grain of salt, too, largely because of the precuts. I was watching one on doing a star, and she used a layer cake. Because of the way she cut and sewed the piece, she ended up wasting more fabric than she used. Certainly, cutting the pieces from yardage would have worked much better, but that's not what she's selling. And the tumbler template, too. If you use the precuts, you waste about 1/2 the fabric in the block. If you would cut a 5" strip and cut and flip the template - no waste at all!

I did a nice size baby quilt by exploding the block 5 times with 5 different fabrics. Really made for a quick top. Got 3 done in about 2 hours! Then added two rows of borders to make it look finished and it turned out to be about 50" square. Also you can start the middle block with a pinwheel square which adds interest. I posted my pink exploded baby quilt a few weeks ago.

Yes, I am hooked on MSQC... Love the tutorials... If you want to make the dresden plate purse you will have to order the 10" dresden ruler from them.. My girlfriend and I looked all over Paducah and none to be had. Jenny Doan is so funny, and she explains things to where you can understand them... I also subscribed to her magazine The Block.
