What size would you make a baby quilt not intended to be used as a crib quilt - just a carry around "blankie"?

Basically one yard. Either 36" X 36" or 36" X width of fabric (42"or so.)

When I make a baby quilt, I make a lovie or blankie. I use the same fabrics and the same basic pattern. The quilt I usually make 50x60 or so and the little one is usually about 18" sq. This is small enough that they can carry it without tripping over it. It is also a good size to use to cover the baby in the car seat. HTH

Thanks everyone. Think I will go with the 36 by wof - then I don't have to piece the back. This is for Halloween and I have some really neat fabric so this will be fun.
