I took my Bernina 200 in for a cleaning and cost was $89.95. So I think I would question why so much.

My LQS charges me 85.00 just for the yearly cleaning so with the parts,taxes etc I really am not so sure it is over charging.It is a lot mind you.Sewing is an expensive hobby.

I just bought a Brother 1500D Embroidery machine for $Au1,500.
I got all the things that went with it plus heaps of embroidery patterns the owner collected over the years. She even put my Jamome 9,000 patterns onto disc so I can use the too. It can be connected to my computer for more patterns of the internetaswell.
Here in Australia my LQS charges $175 for a full service of the machines plus parts.

It does sound high but I called one time to have my machine cleaned & oiled internally. Probably 5 years ago. It was an old & inexpensive Brother machine. They told me the flat rate just for me to drop it off & them to look at it was $75.00. That was before anything else that might of been wrong with it. Prices on everything anymore is terrible. I didn't get it serviced. I just figured I could buy a new one by the time they tallied up the final bill. Anyway I'm still using it, I keep it cleaned & oiled & I baby it along.

Good for you Annette. My overlocker kicked the bucket last week and it was cheaper to buy a new one. It was over 20 years old. I was given $60. for the old one just for parts which I agreed to. Some one else can get them when their old machines play up.

i take mine to hancocks on the first and second tues, of each month they have a repair man come in i have never paid over 49,00 for repair and cleaning, some time i even go in the room and talk to him while he is working on it ,and he explains everything to me

When I take my newer machines in for cleaning/service I always anticipate that the base cost will be at least $100 then add parts etc to that charge. Because the newer machines are primarily computers, the cost does go up.

My old Singer which was purchased in 1970 has no computer chips and when it finally "broke a tooth" on a gear about 5 years ago it cost a bit over $100 for parts and labor.

I know that my newer and more complicated machines would cost more, and in fact, I'm about to find out soon since one machine is "sick".

But $200? I'd want an itemized statement for that, and would expect to see the parts that needed replaying.

Whaoooo. Still under warranty? That doesn't sound right. I have a friend that ended up paying over $900.00 for repairs on her Brother, some of which were fixes on the mistakes the repair person made. But what can you do? Can't throw the machine in the garbage.
