I went to yard sales today and there was a 301 in a black steel case. She was selling it for $100.00. She tried to tell me it was 100 years old and the steel case was the original to it. I suggested to her that she should go on line and find out what year it was made by the serial number on the bottom. She told me in a snotty way that she DID LOOK IT UP AND IT IS 100 YEARS OLD. I just turned and walked back to my car. I was going to buy it but after her attitude I wasn't going to buy anything from her.

 Thanks for letting me vent. :)

Good for you, some can be down right nasty when they are trying to get rid of something...good luck for your next find.

301s are going up in price and $100 isn't a surprise. That it's 100 years old is a surprise. I've not heard of oe older than from the early 50s. A metal cabinet - another surprise. I thought 301s all came in those fiberboard or wooden suitcases. Some people!

I would have whipped out my Iphone and looked up the serial number right then and there. I love having instant answers, stops many a person cold. My Iphone has paid for itself many times over. The new find the lower price app is really hitting the stores big time. I can walk out if the store won't match the lower price of the same item at another retail store and I have, because the out of touch don't use the computer, manager said there was no such thing as a pricing app and snickered. He learned there was pretty darn fast. He wasn't snickering when a crowd gathered looking at the lower prices elsewhere on my phone of the same items his store was selling.

I used to run into this kind of attitude when buying antique quilts - Of course it is 100 years old, my grandmother made it. Well no, it is depression era. After a while I gave up, would just smile and nod my head.

I formulated one of my many rules to live by -

"Don't tell someone something they don't want to know."
