I just finished a queen size quilt that the fabric (Maywood Studios) raveled profusely. I always use plenty of starch and keep the handling of blocks as least as possible. Whenever I have a seam that looks iffy I will double stitch. As I was adding sashing and sewing the rows together the loose threads were flying; the light bulb went off - I cut thin strips (less than a 1/4 inch) of lightweight fusible interfacing and ironed it to the exposed seam allowance, catching in the actual seam. Since it's lightweight and fusible it did not show through and made absolutely no difference in bulk when I quilted it. I didn't have to do it on every seam, just the ones that were questionable. May seem like extra work but really wasn't since I press every seam when I'm sewing and constructing.

I love lightweight fusible. I use it when a block may just be a bit short to patch up the shortness.

I was chatting with a Paducah winner one year and she had won multiple awards before for her quilts. She said she put Misty Fuse on the back of every quilt top and backing to keep the top smooth and no stretching at all during the quilting. I use lightweight fusible on any fabric that will have bias cuts. And I use it on background fabric before appliqueing. Great stuff.

Using the lightweight fusible eems like a good idea to tame those ravels - but I would have ditched the raveling fabric.

You know, I've been doing some paper piecing with tiny pieces in 6" blocks. I might just try this out and see if it helps. Great tip, thanks!
