    I leave the feed dogs up when doing applique.

    I learn some new today I have not done any appliqués but, now I know to leave it up, thanks guys you are best. ;-)

    Leave them up and they will help to pull your fabric through the machine evenly. If they are down you must control the speed of the fabric manually and it's really hard to get even stitching.

    janetm has explained it right----also for blanket +satin stithch it helps to have the needle down

    I always applique with the dogs up gives you more control over the movement of the fabric
