    Default Batting

I am wanting some advice on what kind of batting to use with flannel backing on a quilt. Want something that is not to heavy, but will hold up to every day wear. It is going to be queen size.

If you mean "heavy" as in weight; poly is generally lighter than cotton. Also warmer.

I think most modern batting is going to hold up to every day wear pretty well, as long as you make sure to quilt it per instructions.

My favorite batting I use the most is Hobbs Wool and Hobby Tuscany Silk batting. I have tried others but always go back to these two. I love it in flannel and rag quilts.

I prefer cotton batting. But I also think most of the brand name battings will hold up nicely to daily use. Be sure to think about shrinkage especially with flannel. If you like the crinkly look, you don't need to prewash as both your flannel and cotton or wool batting will shrink 3-5%. If you don't, be sure to prewash both your flannel and batting. The only batting that doesn't shrink much is poly in my experience.

I find that W&N is more heavy than Hobbs 80/20 which is the batting that I have used since it was first manufactured back in the 80s.

I would recommend something with a low loft or wool.
