I agree with Michael. It doesn't get much easier than the rail fence. It's a fun quilt to make.

Since you are familiar with the 9-patch you can add an alternating snowball block OR use a feature print as an alternating block.

Hope you get strong again soon.

This is an excellent site for any quilter, beginner to advanced. her directions are clear, with pics as well. I like the last page of the directions, as she shows a sample of what all blocks will look like when put together.
I agree, love Quilter's Cache...that's where I started getting my block patterns. The first one I did was "Annie's Choice". It's a super easy one and in 12" a quilt goes together fast.

I love the books Quilts for Baby Easy as ABC by Ursula Reikes. It has basic, easy, classic patterns and the instructions are easy to follow. Her basic quilting instructions in the front part of the book are great for beginners as well.

I like the "Take 5" pattern, it is really easy and goes together really quick and can be strip peiced.

I just finished a quilt using alternate 9 patch and snow balls. Snow balls were 6 1/2" square so 9 patch was 6 1/2. Very easy, went together really fast and looks very pretty.

I really appreciate all the help I can get. I still don't know how to put the binding on, my lovely mom-in-law does it for me and is in the process of teaching me. But she lives in another state. You ladies have been a great resource for me. Thanks in advance.
I still believe that a rail fence is the perfect quilt for a beginner. Only three or four fabric choices and it's hard to make a mistake with this pattern and has less matching edges than a nine-patch. The Chinese coin quilt is another one that's hard to mess up.

Spend an afternoon or evening at your local library. You'd be amazed at what patterns are available in books that you can check out.
