I would recommend an older book that can be found for sale on eBay called The Bargello Book by Piecemakers. There is also simple square Bargello which you might find easier to do for sale on eBay.......

Eileen's book is excellent but I think it might just overwhelm you with most patterns have twists and turns. The Surf Song is the only simple pattern in the book. There have been numerous photos previously posted on this site. Just do an advance search and check it out. There are a lot of us who are experienced with Bargello and we are all here to help.

I started with the book Jeanne recommended, Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts by Eileen Wright. I read it carefully several times before I started....and part of her instructions say that if you are new to a Bargello, consider making a place mat, which she has in the back of the book. The instructions are very basic and I was able to follow them easily...even though I was scared silly the whole time!! 
I only made one place mat, though I suspect making four would make more sense; however, doing that taught me the technique and gave me confidence. That was in November last year. Then I made Surf Song, which is also in the book. I gained even more confidence with it.
Long story short, I have now made 7 Bargello quilts. I am hooked. Oh, when I first started, I asked folks on this board for advice. I got wonderful advice. I am going to post this and see if I can find a link to that good advice. I have referred back to it quite often...

They may look hard , but really are not any harder than any quilt made with strip sets. It takes just a bit of a brain adjustment to work thru the method, but once you get it... it goes very fast. The hardest part can be the fabric selection. Eileen Wright has several books published, all have very clear directions. Read the directions step by step a few times ... and then give it a go... just stay organized.
