I'm just wondering how many there are. I know that Hole in The Barn Door has other names. My sister just made one called Dutchman's Puzzle, and it looks like Flying Geese to me.

How many do you know of?

The sub units are flying geese. It the arrangement that turns them into a Dutchman's Puzzle.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands of blocks that have numerous names for the same block, sometimes different locations/ regions have their own names for the same block, sometimes it is a family thing...or numerous reasons why it is called one thing here & something totally different there....

Barbara brackmann has a book with many of the older patterns it. The blocks are all line drawings.

There are dome blocks with many names.

There are some block names with several block designs.

And then there are all the unnamed ones that are around - -

For older patterns, there could be as many as three names for each pattern. Whenever a pattern designer uses an older pattern, they always seem to rename the pattern AGAIN !!

Oh lands.....to me this question is like asking how many petals a garden of zinnnias has. There are SO many, grief!

Another name for the Hunter's Star is sometimes called Orion's Star. They both mean the same pretty much as far as Orion's star is named for an astrological pattern. I'm not an astrological specialist so my wording may be a little off. I just was told that Orion is that figure of a man's lower body is that of a horse (?) and he's holding a bow and arrow.
