    Default blue pigma pen

Why I am not impressed with them.

I contacted the company, and was informed that they were NOT designed for using on fabric.

I made the quilt in 1995 - perhaps they have changed since then.

What I may have done wrong - I wrote over and over on the writing - and it may have soaked into the batting - I used Mountain Mist polyester batting.

The label on the back is pale but still (barely) readable.

You didn't do anything wrong - except for using those pens on fabric. They were never designed for fabric that would be laundered, and the manufacturer is probably tired of telling quilters to quit using them.

Also avoid using a Friction pen. See the current discussion on this board under the title: I ruined my king size scrap quilt. I've learned more than I'd ever imagined just by reading all the posts!

Then which pen should we use for labels? Please don't tell me I should hand embroider the label......

Uh, is it label or lable? I can't spell anymore.
Is anymore one word? I've lost my punctuation skills too.

These pens are sold in LQS. Why?

I use the Pigma pens for labels. And you've shown that the ink doesn't hold up well. So, which prns would be better to use?

My blog partner (and good friend) Cindi recently wrote a very thorough article about her experience testing several "permanent" marking pens for a signature quilt. She washed her test samples multiple times and used 4 different detergents. She found that a pen called the "Nano Liner" by Royal Langnickel was the best. She purchased it at Hobby Lobby for about $2.

Thanks, Peggi. I read the post about the markers before and I'll reread it. No Hobby Lobby around here but I can order online.

I used a Pigma Micron pen for a label on a quilt I kept, and found it faded over the years and I had to re-do it.
