    Default Border ideas please?

I'm modifying a pattern so that it's a lap quilt, not bed sized. In doing so, my top and bottom borders will be 7" larger than the side ones. I've done some google image searches to see how this may look and possible treatments. I saw one picture where the borders were simply different sizes, that looked ok. I saw one where a stripe of the inner border fabric was pieced between 2 pieces of the outer border fabric on the top and bottom only, that looked ok too. Last thing I saw was a strip of squares of all the fabrics in the quilt inserted into the top and bottom border, once again it was fine. So I have 3 possible plans. Are there any other suggestions? Pictures maybe?? Thanks!!

7" larger total, or total of 14" between the two. I would think about making an additional row of the pattern if possible. Any pictures??

7" total, so 3 1/2" each on the top and bottom. Gosh, that's less than I thought now that I look closely. Maybe it won't even be too obvious.

The pattern is called "It's an illusion" and it was in a free issue of the Missouri Quilt Co magazine just recently. (Someone on this board clued me in to this free issue.) Each block is 7 x 12. I haven't even begun to cut yet. Just planning. I could also play around with arranging the blocks with the long side horizontally, not vertically.

I've just noticed the pattern doesn't even call for a border. Maybe I'll do that instead?

I normally "audition" fabric for a border trying different fabrics and widths and taking photos so I can refer to see which suits the quilt the best.

I really like that pattern! I think I would do it borderless. If you are not using precuts - layer cakes, you could change the length of the block to fit in an additional row.

Thanks Cheryl. I am not using precuts. I'm generally pretty challenged when it comes to doing the math, I rely on my borders to make the quilt the proper size. But I've just watched the video of Jenny making the blocks and the white sashing is cut after it's sewn, so there's really not much to measure. I may just do that. Thanks!!

    Thanks Manic also. Good idea!
