    Default Buying a quilting machine

Does anyone know if the jamone 6300 sewing machine is good for free motion quilting? Any problems? Or would you recommend something else. I don't want to spend more than $1500.

Janome have a fairly good reputation, but I Goggled the machine, and while it might be a "good" machine, there isn't very much throat space, so I would have to ask, what size quilts do you plan on doing? If baby to lap, it would probably be good, but I think you'd have to struggle to do anything larger. I don't have any machine recommendations in that price range, other than to say, I wouldn't buy any kind of new Singer, this is my honest opinion.

The Janome 1600 P is in your price range. 9 inch throat, straight stitch only. Great workhorse.

I think you could get a used Handiquilter in that price range. I know a guild member who sold hers for that much.

I have had my 6600 for 7 years and it is still my go to machine. I can easily FMQ small projects on it but I rent a LA for anything larger than a lap size quilt.

I've had my Singer S18 (Same as Janome 6500) for 2 years and done a lot of FMQ with it and it's been fantastic.

I love my new Juki TL2010Q- right now it's on Amazon for I believe 874.00. The reviews are helpful. It's a great machine for FMQ- that's why I bought it. I don't need extra features.

Welcome to the board, your going to be happy you found it. I personally don't own this machine but the Brother 1500 is a straight stitch only machine and it is comparable to the Juki 2010 it sells for I believe under $700. Unless you are looking for a mid arm. For the amount of money you can save buying the Brother over the Juki the people that I know who own these machines love them and the ability to FMQ. Good luck with your purchase.
