    lay a piece of fabric where all the fabric meets, hit it with a mallet to flatten the bulk.

    You can't really see it in the picture. Maybe a good pressing would help. Sometimes if it looks like you will have a lot of seams meeting in the same spot, you might press away from the darker fabric or press them open to cut down on the layers.

    Looks like a good job to me. Haven't tried this pattern yet, but maybe someday.
