Thank you so much for the link to Edie's tutorial. Absolutely great, and so easy to follow. I particularly like the way Edie did the folding and machining for the window and think I might try that one of these days. Many years ago when the girls were small I made a Cathedral Window cot quilt all by hand. I used to have the squares of white cotton (I think it was a poplin) by the ironing board and every time I did some ironing I ironed a few squares. These were then transfered to my basket by my arm chair to sew together in the evenings, and then finally placing the panes in the middle. If I did the machined windows I could work much faster. I still love doing hand work - find it theraputic.

I have made two cathedral window quilts and made the squares much like Eddie's pattern, but when it gets to #15 in his tutorial I hand stich the opening in the square before I press it.
I also hand stitch around all the windows. The only time I machine stitch is when I make the original square and when I am attaching new squares.
It is a beautiful quilt and a handy carry along project.

There was a tut done by Eddie for cathedral windows very easy to follow but it was in the old format so don't know how to find it.

Both of these can actually be done (classic style) with 90% machine stitching versus 100% hand stitching.

Thank you for the link. And thanks, Eddie, for a great tutorial. This is the best tutorial I have seen. I think even I can make a QW quilt following these great instructions. I have wanted to make a QW but most instructions are hand sewing. I have arthritis in my hands so that is out. If it can't be done on the machine, it doesn't get done. I'm anxious to make a QW.
