Our church is having a dinner and I wanted to pull together a quilt pretty quick to donate. I bought a charm pack and layer cake.. thinking I could just quickly sew these blocks together for a simple quilt. Wow was I wrong. Only about half of the colors work together.. there is no way I can put these all on one quilt. Don't get me wrong.. the fabric is gorgeous.. just will not work for what I have in mind... I need something quick.[TABLE]

I will have to save these for another project...
In the mean time.. do any of you guys know of a layer cake or charm pack that the colors are coordinating enough to be able use on one quilt?
Please let me know
Thanks

It is pretty hard to know exactly what is in a charm pack unless they give you a picture of all the fabrics inside it. I just made the mistake of buying charm packs from sites that do not show the fabrics inside. This site give you a picture of the fabrics if you click on the name of the pack.

If you look at Missouri Star Quilt Co. tutorial called "four patch and snowball" you might be able to use the fabric you have. It's scrappy enough that it might work.

Never dawned. On me before but 1 layercake will make 4 charm packs which I believe is cheaper than 4 single charm packs. Never thought before. Thick me.

I like charm packs but sometimes I find them hard to put together because charms are so plain and some are not. I find myself looking in my stash for fabric to go with them.

I recently used a layer cake from Moda called Independence Trail. Let me put a picture of the quilt so you can look at the fabrics....in case it "rings your chimes."

No, this is slightly more than one layer cake....I was making two matching twin sized quilts, but I wanted them over large. I think I used 48 ten inch blocks, and a layer cake has 42. I also bought extra fabric for the borders. Originally Posted by meyert

The pattern is from Missouri Star, called Double Slice Layer Cake. Just google that and it will take you to the video, in case it is a pattern you are interested in. It was very quick to put together.
I thought the fabrics went together well, which isn't true for all layer cakes....just my opinion there.
