Thanks for all your support. I spent all afternoon cleaning her up (cosmetically, inside needs to be cleaned up yet, as well as her case...boy that thing smells REALLY attic fresh :) ) I can see now that she is actually in really good shape. I wish so SO much that I could plug her in and give her a whirl, but the cord has bare wires, and I haven't the correct cord to replace it. Turning the hand wheel, she's smooth as silk! I'll have to order that cord and a bunch of other stuff to "fill in the gaps", but I love her greatly. I have a 301 that I've been "borrowing" items from until I get the parts via mail order. I will definitely post photos soon. Can't wait to show her off! :-P

i got the book & dvd of Dave McCallum's i think both are needed very helpful & he tells you how to clean up case you can buy every thing from him. i service mine w/ his direction

NY Singer dealership that deals in vintage singers gets 89.00 for basic greasing and oiling...bobbin case for my 301 cost 69...

In my area it is going for $65.00 for a fw. I had my 1965 Singer 628K serviced at the same place and it was $163.00. Enjoy it they are great machines. I have 2 of them and I love them both. :)

I got a machine with a bad cord at an auction and got my cord on Ebay for about $15. I rewired the footpedal myself. But it is easy for a repairman when doing the overall checkup.

Ebay is also a good source for many parts as well as bobbin cases.

There is also a Yahoo group to join which has large membership and several experts.

I called to see how much a tune up is when i was looking on E-Bay. It was $80 which I thought was a lot. He only charges that for my electronic machine. Luckily he had a featherweight in the shop and I bought that one since he had already tuned it and cleaned it.
