That is one thing to alway check to make sure there is a bobbin case, they can be kind of costly, alot of shops keep the bobbin case under lock and key because folks like to take them. I would call him back and ask if he has the case. I have paid $65.00 for a bobbin case, and the guy that does my tune ups said he would have to charge $95.00 for a new case. I hope you don't have to spend alot of money on getting her up and running. There usually is not too much to go wrong with them. Good luck.

Sew excited for you! I took a featherweight maintenance class at my local quilt shop, and now can do it myself.

I agree....get the David McCullen book AND no need to oil or use cleaning materials.....our local quilt club and a local repairman, all use GOOP which cleans and oils at the same time. It works wonders! just wipe on and wipe off....don't glob on.....beautiful! So happy you finally joined the FW club!

Your bobbin case from the 301 will work in your featherweight. In fact, I acquired a 222 that had no bobbin case and bought my first 301 because I had found out that they used the same bobbin case.

I just had my mother's old Singer refurbished. The repairman charged me $13 to replace the wiring and $79 to do the tune-up. His son who was in when I picked up the machine (it's about 70 years old) showed me how to thread it and fill in the bobbins. He also told me to clean up the grime with rubbing alcohol, nothing like paint thinner and to go lightly over the painted areas.

Our church has a fund raiser called The Extra Mile. It's used for scholarships for the kids. Everyone gets a dollar seed money in the spring to invest in some kind of a fund raiser. At the fall hymn sing we bring in whatever money we've raised. Some ladies sell pies or sweet relish, one lady made bracelets, etc. I offer FW cleaning and maintenance...for $29.95. Apparently I'm cheap! I don't do rewiring for others although I would for myself.

Even though she is a bit on the worn side, don't give up on her. They are fun to work on. Clean her up and check on the web, you can order the parts you need and do the work yourself. It is a good feeling when you get done and she's purring like a kitten.

To get the musty smell out of my featherweight case, I put a couple of OdorEaters brand of charcoal shoe inserts inside. Not sure how long it took, but the next time I opened the case the smell was gone. I keep them in there all the time now because they also provide some padding between the machine and foot control.
