Someone was asking about cotton covered polyester thread. I had understood that Coats and Clarks had quit making it. BUT, today I looked at the new thread set up at Hancocks and there it is!!! They call it Piecing and Quilting thread. Or maybe Quilting and Piecing. It is available in several colors, so check it out. I haven't been to the website yet to see if they have it there.

I didn't like the feel of the poly covered poly dual duty thread.
(I never used it - I just didn't like the way it felt on the spool)

When I bought my Husqvarna Viking, they told me never to use Coats and Clark, and their first choice was Gutterman. I wonder if the cotton wrapped would still be a no no. Anyone know? They said the C and C gives off way too much lint and clogs up the disks on the tension knob.

I only get lint from black C&C, but my only spool of Connecting Threads cotton thread is very linty and it's a light color.

I used C & C all the time no problems. Most black thread of any brand will have more lint.

Be sure to look at the speciality threads. The Dual Duty is still Poly on Poly

Used to use poly-wrapped cotton for everything I sewed but switched to all-poly Superior Threads Oh So Fine (He's all mine, blah blah Supremes or Martha and Vandellas 1965?)
It is not linty. But cotton is all linty to some extent. You need to blow out the area under the needle that gets linty. I've always done this - my old Elna never minded it. Maybe your seller didn't want responsibility of teaching you to maintain machine.

My viking doesn't mind the cotton covered polyester. I have used many different types of thread with no problem. All machines get linty over time and have to be cleaned. They should have shown you how to deal with it on your machine. If your dealer did not teach you how to do minor maintenance, he/she was shirking responsibility. (By the way, does your viking dealer sell only Gutterman thread?)

I don't know; I was told by Viking to use Aurofil in my mega quilter. I also use it the most in my kenmore/janome and have no problems and no lint build up
