    Default CT for thread

    Hi,
I am new on this site, and saw a recent message about getting thread from Connecting Threads. I checked them out, and now have a dilemma regarding thread. Do you use cotton or polyester? I have always used Gutermann 100% cotton thread that I've picked up at Joann's. I would love to hear your thoughts about CT, and cotton vs. polyester. Thank you!

I've used both their cotton and polyester threads. I prefer their cotton thread. However, it does produce a fair amount of lint, so you have to be prepared to clean out bobbin area often. That being said, their prices are great, and they often have nice sales.

    What Patricia said.

My machine likes their thread and for the price, you can't go wrong. I buy their cotton for piecing in neutral colors and have both cotton and poly in lots of colors.

Depends. I piece with cotton, usually 60 wt Presencia, but sometimes use the connecting threads cotton. I quilt on a long arm and often use their poly for that, but sometimes use their cotton. I like their fabric and it seems that the cotton thread is dyed to be a perfect match.

I pretty much use CT cotton exclusively for piecing and FMQing. My machines like it and it's a good price and good quality.....

I use both cotton and polyester threads, polyester for quilting, cotton tends to break easily on my long arm. Cotton is linty, polyester is not. For piecing It depends. Sometimes I want thinner/ finer polyester, sometimes thicker/ heavier cotton is best. I purchase both from CT.

Thanks for all your responses! I appreciate it. I think I may need to give polyester thread a try . . .

I do all my piecing with polyester thread. There's a myth out there in "quilterland" that polyester thread cuts into cotton fabric. Lots and lots of hard evidence proves this to be wrong!

CT Poly is 70 wt. filament. The cotton is 50 wt 3 ply. I like the poly because it is thin. I use it in top and bottom.
