Years ago my sis gave me a gate leg table which I unfold to use for cutting then fold down one end and use the rest of the table for my machine. It folds up to 36". I won't part with it. Very sturdy and doesn't shake and vibrate when I'm sewing like the folding tables do.
Look in consignment shops, Goodwill and simular stores. Garage sales are good too. I also picked up one for my son, It was smaller and had a gouge in the top but that is easy to fix.

I have the same situation as you...guest room with a bed, limited space, and oh yes it's my sewing room as well! At least I have a closet-that's now stuffed with my stash.
I use 2 card tables, I also have one of those white speckled plastic top tables- it's a little big so I don't use that as much as the card tables. I did have to buy mdf board at Home Depot and use that on top for a more straight and sturdy top for cutting. You can put them away under the bed. So it's a workable solution.

I use a 1" thick piece of plywood, covered with formica and then a cutting mat tacked to the top.....works great and is portable.

A couple years ago, our Wal-Mart put in new cutting tables, and I was lucky enough to purchase one of the older ones for $75.00. It is wonderful, it has a few nicks in the top, but the cutting "V" was intact on both sides. I purchased 2 metal yardsticks and replaced them on the top since all the numbers were faded. There are shelves underneath, just like you see at WalMart. It is wonderful. I was very lucky. Perhaps you might put in a buzz to your Walmart store, if they are closing down the fabric dept., (sadly) you could get first dibs on the table. Our Walmart in Warsaw, Indiana has made changes, too, but a bit confusing. One week the story changes, closing? Not closing?. We just have to wait and see here.

Oops, I got carried away in my first post regarding the WalMart Table. If space is limited, I always look up. If you or signifcant other is a bit handy, you could get a piece of 4' x 4' plywood, place on hinges on one side, screwing into the 2x4s inside the wall for strength, attach to a wall space to the height that you would like the table, and add some folding legs to it. Then purchase a cutting mat large enough to fit on top, screw it on the top and there you have it. You can fold it up against the wall when not in use. I am sure you have seen the folding ironing boards, so this would be something on that line.

I failed to mention that I purchased a 48" x 60" cutting mat made for the folding table that was sold at JoAnn's. I use that on my walmart table.
